APPROACH

Tucked away in sleepy Ikoyi, this two storey townhouse was designed to be a tranquil escape in the heart of Lagos. We took the project from carcass to completion, handling flooring and plumbing as well as civil and electrical works. The structure suffered from a lack of natural light, quite common with most modern Nigerian houses, so it was paramount to introduce new and larger windows to let in more natural light for serenity and ambience.

In order to maximise the space, we made structural adjustments such as the breaking and (re)placement of the staircase to the far left of the house to create more room. To ensure continuity whilst enlarging the space, the walls were all painted one neutral off-white colour tone with window treatments in a similar colour, exuding a calm atmosphere. 

Drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s vintage Nigeria, we used white terrazzo for the flooring, avoiding darker flooring so as to ensure the light aura remained prominent in the space. Mood lighting was incorporated along with LED lights inserted in the ceiling for additional illumination. The bathrooms were all remodelled after spas, with washed stone tiling creating the effect of a wet room. The furniture was a mixture of African and Italian, culminating into our firm’s signature look of ‘refined African authenticity’ combining sofas from Paris with coffee tables from Lekki Market. This synthesis of home and away to create beautiful spaces, is our forte here at O’DA.
